New Jersey Point Reduction

To Get a 2 Point Reduction from your New Jersey driver license…

1. Enroll in and complete your New Jersey Defensive Driving Course!

Because the 2-point reduction is voluntary, you do not need to request permission from a court or the MVC to take a defensive driving course.

  • You may take this course once every 5 years to earn a point reduction.
  • You must also have at least 2 points on your driving record in order to be eligible. These could be recent points you’ve incurred from a traffic violation.
2. Submit your Completion Certificate to the New Jersey Motor Vehicles Commission (MVC).

1SafeDriver.com will send you a Certificate of Completion via the shipping method you have chosen, which you may then mail or bring to your local MVC office.

3. Check your driving record.

Give the MVC a few weeks to process your completion, and then pull a copy of your New Jersey driving record. Make sure that 2 points have been removed from your license, and that you’ve received credit for completing a New Jersey defensive driving online course.
